Seasons Change…What Remains?

One thing is certain: Seasons Change

Life has seasons. Times that are so good that are you don’t even recognize their greatness till that season is gone. Times that are so hard you think they’ll never end.

One thing is certain: Seasons Change. They don’t need your permission. And you can’t stop them.

But you can control your response.

You can let a hard season define you. Direct your focus to yourself, making your world small and your pity-party large. Refusing to see the opportunities right in front of you. Feeling like a victim. Sure of your powerlessness and angry at the circumstances you’ve faced. And missing what God has for you.

You can look back at some wonderful season that has passed, grieving the loss of that time with your group of friends or your family. Refusing to live in the present. Refusing to deal with life today. Missing opportunities to move forward in faith, with joy in the Lord.

One thing is certain: Seasons Change.

God is a constant in all of them. You can look at what you’ve been through. The hardships and trials. And realize you’re still standing. Still drawing breath. God’s still got a purpose for you. That is much larger than you alone. And you can embrace this new season in faith and joy. Rear-view mirrors are small for a reason. Look forward. Trust God. Walk in faith.

You can deal with the fact that right now is a season of hardship. Good…recognize it and trust God. Because…one thing is certain: Seasons Change. This won’t last. You’ll pass to another season. Or pass into the presence of your King if your faith is in Jesus.

You can thank God for the season you enjoyed so much. And realize that the God who provided that owed you nothing. Yet gave you such joy. And know that he’s still God, regardless. Your joy is in him, not your circumstances.

One thing is certain: Seasons Change. You can’t stop that. But you can choose your response.

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory”- Colossians 3.

Talking to myself more than anyone. We had no kids- no one depending on us. Then we had a wonderful baby boy. He depended on us. We’ve loved that season. Then we had a relative living with us- a hard season. Now we have a son who needs us less and less. A new season yet again.

Seasons come. Seasons go. God remains. Love remains. Faith remains. Jesus is enough.
